Color shift using gif as pattern background

I'm using a gif 1240 pixels wide x 15 pixels high as a tiled
background.

There seems to be a slight color shift (from beige to magenta) when
the gif is used as a background vs used a image on the page. Occurs on
both IE and Netscape. Anyone else come accross this? Any ideas on how
to correct?

Is the color shift on the overall screen surface or only on part of it ?
If it is on part of it, it could be a monitor hardware problem.

Could you put on the Web a simple page using that image and
demonstrating the color shift for us to see it?

Solved the problem. Turned out to be user error. Sorry about that.

I was wrong, image on page was displayed same as background.

Turns out image color was beyond what gif could support.

When I made the image a jpg, I got the color I wanted.
