You don't give a URL, but try putting the page through a validator, e.g.
http://validator.w3.org/. I think that you have errors somewhere on the
page.

The full doctype puts your browser into Standards mode, and any illegal code
will cause undesirable effects - in this case, the menu not working. The
short doctype puts your browser into Quirks mode, where the browser will
take a good guess at what you mean, and (in this case, presumably) makes the
menu work.

Pete.

....23 errors. Several in the Javascript include areas, which may explain why
the long doctype causes your page to fail.

At a quick scan, there's nothing in the error list that would be too
difficult to fix. Once you have a clean validation, try it with the long
doctype - you'll probably find that the page now works.

there is no attribute "BORDERCOLOR" (explain...).
...ter" cellpadding="4" border="2" bordercolor="#CC9966">

caused by using vendor-specific attributes without setting the document type
appropriately. What is IExplorer6 doctype?

I took off the bordercolor
and used
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=ht...om%2FTidy1.htm

The renamed page validate.
