Hello All,
I am with webhost A which is notorious for frequent server failures. I have been with them for over 4 years and have had google index my pages there. This webhost is inexpensive. My active pages there are in perl.
I have a backup site with another webhost B which is a free hosting service. I converted my perl pages to HTML.
When webhost A is up and running, I have no issues, but when it is down, I want to be able to somehow redirect incomming quiries to webhost B.
I was thinking about putting a redirect into index.html of webhost A, but then google would give me a page not found error. I then thought of using webhost A error pages for a redirect but did'nt know if I can put a redirect html coding into the text box for their error pages?.
Webhost A has multiple servers but the server that my site is on seems to breakdown or needs the bandwidth increased. I asked to be put on a reliable server but so far that has not helped either.
When someone clicks on a google link to my site, it is usually to one of my perl files and if the site is down, the user will get some kind of error message or a timeout message. I would like to avoid this by redirecting them to my webhost B site only when webhost A's server is down.
I really do not want to terminate with webhost A since google has already indexed all my pages using webhost A's path.
Anyway to accomplish this ??
