browser compatability

Hi,
I'm in the process of building a new web site, and after browsing this
group for a while, have opted to try and get it as compatible as possible
from the start. There's not much content there, and what is needs tidying
up. But I would appreciate any pointers to problems with the site so that I
can attempt to get things done the right way from the start. The site is at
http://broadband.martinc.me.uk.

Any hints on accessibility issues would also be much appreciated, as being
new to HTML, I'm not sure of all the issues.

On quick inspection, it looks good. But it doesn't validate because
of a single target=_blank attribute. Lose that. Otherwise, markup
looks sensible. I'm not sure about the blue on white text. You might
want to go with a bit more congtrast, i.e., choose a darker color for
the text.

Good to hear :-).

The links on the left need to be darker - the grey on yellow is very hard to
read.

ISTM that you have too much information on the front page - it should give a
quick summary of the purpose of the site, and then people can follow the
links to the sections they are interested in.

You should check your links - most of the ones in the text on the front page
are wrong.

Works both with and without Javascript - good :-) . Seems to work well in
Lynx at a quick glance.

As Brian said, the HTML is not valid because of one "target=_blank". The
CSS isn't valid either -
http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/v...usermedium=all

All in all, a good effort. :-)

Just looking at the opening page:

There is way too much content on the page; it needs breaking down into a
number of pages with suitable navigation.

And then the paragraphs are huge; they need a bit more spacing in them
and maybe less words and some icons instead.

All-in-all, very hard to read. (At the very least it needs a menu at the
top of the page -- but it really needs more than just that).

regards.

Thanks Mark & Brian,
I somehow missed the http:// from the links. That is now fixed and the
stylesheet now validates. I'm in the process of splitting the information
into seperate pages, but that will take a bit longer. I'll also look a bit
closer at the color scheme, I see your point.

Hi Jake,
thanks for the feedback. Splitting the content into seperate pages and
reformatting the text is next on my list, once I have sorted the color
scheme. Out of interest, you say it needs a menu at the top, is the one on
the side not good enough?

Hi,
thanks for that, think I'll need to do a bit of reading up to get it
working on web TV. It seems to be totally confused by CSS, so I'm not sure
how to make it work. I'll have to experiment on a test page I think.
