Changing background colour in a link?

Dear Experts!

I'd be grateful if you can help me with this.

I'm having an inline frame which points to 'www.externalsite.com'. The
page which contains the inline frame has an orange background, the
pages at 'www.externalsite.com' have a white background.

Can I change the background of 'www.externalsite.com' to mach the
background of the inline frame page upon loading?

Tried something like this but 'www.externalsite.com' stays white:

<iframe name="I1" src="www.externalsite.com" document.bgColor=#FFCC09>
Your browser does not support inline frames or is currently configured
not to display inline frames.</iframe>

Thanks very much for your efforts!

Kind Regards,

Martin

Hi. Thank you very much for your reply!

Just to clarify - Do I need the permission from www.externalsite.com
when I use a stylesheet to change the background colour? What are the
basic legal rules when you can and when not link to another site?

Sorry, I'm not a professional webdesigner so I am grateful nfor your
help!

Kind Regards,

Martin

You can include a user-stylesheet in your browser and override the body-
background-color.
If you want to re-publish the site for others, you should ask the site-
owner to do the changes. Or if you're allowed to use the material, build
a server-side script (e.g. using PHP), grab the content, and reformat it
(which would also get rid of the inline-frame).
Tried something like this but 'www.externalsite.com' stays white:

<iframe name="I1" src="www.externalsite.com" document.bgColor=#FFCC09>
Your browser does not support inline frames or is currently configured
not to display inline frames.</iframe>

This alternative text is not the best; add the link to the document.

It might help though if you explain what it is you're trying to achieve.
Maybe there's better solutions.

Aside from any permission, you cannot simply change their stylesheet.

Some sites disallow deep linking (misunderstanding how the web works).
Others object to framing, which is reasonable. The question is what you
want to do, and asking the other site-owner would help know if it's OK
with them.
