how to put my banner/header to my website?

P: 1
Hi friends,
Can anyone teach me how to put my banner/header to my website...I'm a beginner but interested to learn how to make my own website by using CSS and HTML. I already have a simple website as a beginner by following youtube tutorials and just edit it such as hex colors, size of my website...I have banner and i used Paint.Net to make my banner/header but i CAN'T put it to my website..
I want to know what code should i have to put and how to put it on my style.css so it can attach to the top of my website as my header/banner.I use adobe dreamweaver instead of notepad++ as what the tutorials video used.
The tutor said i should put this code
<img src="imagename.png"> or it didn't work..
when i tried to put it on style.css the adobe dreamweaver don't accept .png only .html or xtml so i rename it and instead of header.png i put header.html but it still didn't work :(

please help for the interested beginner...thanks!
