Problems with Tables in Firefox and Explorer (but not in Safari)

I'm working on the index page of a site and can get the tables to view properly in Safari, but have a gap in both Explorer and Firefox .
The page is here:
http://ludussports.com/index-test.html
I believe the problem is with the golf image (golf1.jpg) spanning two rows and two columns. I went back and specified the column widths and double checked the table width....any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

I see several gaps. Could you be more specific as to which gap you are looking to get rid of?

A good way to debug tables is to turn your border on so you can visually see how the cells are laid out.

As a side note tables really shouldn't be used for layouts. Divs are the modern practice.

Thanks for the response and sorry for the omission. The three images on the right should slide over and eliminate the large gap between the man with the flag and the steeplechasers and gap betw/ the gymnast and the golfer. It views properly in Safari.

Thanks for the side note. Will look into recoding w/ divs. The tables are pretty simple without a lot of code-so I'm hoping it doesn't slow things down much. Just need it to work!
Thanks,
R
