Absolute Positioning Menu problems & Sides of page dissapear when minimized

This problem is hard to to explain. I have a web page with a container that has all of my content on it and then on the side of that container I have a small menu type of thing that I made which always stays at the top of the page (absolute positioning).

The problem I have is that the blank space (on the left and right of the main container) dissapears when I minimize the page.

This is hard to explain so please check on my website the problem.. Open this page (Maximized):

http://ww-chat.com/

Once it has fully loaded (maximized) press the maximize button again so you can adjust the width of the browser window.

Try to make the browser window as narrow as possible; You will see that the black background parts of my page dissapear and the menu that I made goes behind my container.

I have no clue what I have done wrong or how to even begin to fix this.

Any advice on what is the cause of this or even how to troubleshoot it?

Thanks in advance,

Worldwideebm.

I forgot to mention that I tested this in mozilla firefox.

When I do this in Internet Explorer 8 It does the same thing except only for the right side of the page..

If i load the page when it is minimized and then once it finished loading I maximise it it has the problem but only for the left side of the page..

I think that if I fix the problem that occurs in firefox it will probably also fix this problem which occurs in internet explorer.

Thanks
