How to handle multiple style sheets

348 100+
Hello everyone. I’d like to know how to handle multiple style sheets. I have css tabs that have a style sheet and then I also have a separate style sheet for the content that goes inside the tab.

The problem I am running into is that the tab style sheet uses attributes in the html and body and so does the content style sheet. Each one is specific to its content. The tab style sheet seems to take precedence over the content style sheet because it is loaded first. Because of this, the content does not look right. How should I handle this?

What I would like to have is a single style sheet for everything if that’s possible. If not, its totally cool but I would really like to get the forms to all play nice together.

Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

Keep it simple. What is totally cool is a page that works. How one achieves that is a matter of opinion. My opinion is keep it on one style sheet. More advanced front-end designers opinions may differ. And that is fine. It is your call. Not mine. Or theirs.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your response. I agree, a page that works is what I'm shooting for but in this case, I would like to know if it is possible to define different elements specifically the html and body elements. What I need is for the tabs html and body to be at 100% width and the inner content body and html elements to be at 80% width. Also, the backgrounds between the two will be different.

I would like to know if this can be done. I just can't get it to work. I have tried using inline css and still nothing.

I have already started to condense everything into one sheet. It's getting quite intense too. All of the other elements aside from the html and body I can handle without a problem but it's really just those two that are giving me the problem.

Thanks again,
Frank

I regret that I am unable to answer your question based on such a vague theoretical possibility. Perhaps someone on the forum of a more linear mind-set might help.

Good luck.

Perhaps Dave. Well, we can only hope.
