CSS background image repeat problems!!!

What I want to do (whether you can or not, I don't know) is:
Repeat an image downwards...

eg:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. .somedivisionname{
  2. background: acolor url(apicture.filetype) repeat-[down] center left;
  3. }
By the way I know [down] isn't a proper value.
I also know you can use repeat-y but this repeats in both directions on the y axis, I want to repeat in just one!

Please help,
Mr Prister

ps. I would prefer and answer that doesn't use tons of code if possible as im quite new to CSS.

What you are looking for is repeat-y.

Repeat-y repeats in both vertical directions (doesn't it?)... i want to repeat just downwards?

@Mr Prister
Repeat-y does just repeat downwards. (y axis).

Tryit Editor v1.4 - demo.

@Markus

Below is the Tryit Editor v1.4 with the picture centered. note i have set it to no-repeat.
test1.jpg

Now when i change it to repeat-y it repeats in both directions on the y-axis!
test2.jpg

I want it only to repeat downwards... not up as well!
(-y if you prefer, not +y as well.)

@Mr Prister
in the second example the image starts at top (background-repeat overrides the background-position directive!) and stretches all the way to the end of the element. there's no repeat in -y direction.

Sorry about that Mr Prister I read it vertical not just downward. I suppose that is what I get for being in a hurry. I don't know of a solution using just HTML/CSS for this.

why don't you put a division in the middle and put repeat-y from there.... its tricky. but works well

@clain
I guessed that was one way but I didn't like the idea of it to be honest! I will try that anyway... Thanks for the replies dudes!
