Uploading with FTP (software) query

Using FileZilla V2 to upload to one server suddenly had the directory not
display. Two other different servers continue to display the directory
contents. Last used on July 22/08 in a successful state. Tues. Aug.20 no
directory.
Upgrading to FileZilla V3.1 produced the same result.

The error record doesn't remain consistent.
Initially the log record displayed: 'socket operation was attempting to
reach an unreachable host'. Now the test LIST displays and the log record
says: Cannot display directory. V3 times out immediately. The wizard in V3
that tests the configuration reports that it is either Firewall or Router.
Shutting off the Windows Firewall isn't the solution.
At the Linksy forum ( my router is a Wireless-G broadband used in a wired
set-up WRT54GS v7) I just downloaded the version update but haven't
installed. The passive routine has worked for some considerable time.

I see lots of references to this condition but not a distinct routine for
repair. I phoned the specific server support and the technician didn't have
a ready answer and had no knowledge of anything having changed at their end.
He asked me to change the configuration to active rather than passive but
that didn't resolve the condition.

An alternate FTP software was downloaded to another computer but the same
thing- Nexicom.net server no directory while gogax.com and webng.com will
display.

I wondered if anyone here has had this situation arise and what references
can be used to get possible solutions. I've run out of search terms.

I had a similar situation a while ago. I was able to list files on
every server except the one provider. I opened up a command window, and
tried to FTP from the command line. When it was unsuccessful, I copied
the output to a plain text file, and sent that, with the log from
Filezilla to the provider. They were stumped for about three hours, and
finally told me to use Active Transfer.

If you can get to other providers without any problem, it is probably
that one provider's server that is giving you headaches. I doubt it has
anything to do with FTP software or firewall settings.

Thanks for your response.
I was hesitant to make major changes to the router configuration when my
most used servers can be connected to with no problems.
I look after a web site for a friend who is 6 or 7 hours drive east of me.
They have a domain for their summer cottage business so e-mailing a file to
be uploaded surely doesn't add much help when its their busy time.
The work around I did today was use the built in File Management system that
the server has built into the set-up for a domain. Its one file upload at a
time but it got the update done.
The help technician did say he would look into it but that could be wishful
thinking for me to totally believe that <grin>

I'll check out the fine details for Active transfer to see if there is some
small thing I left out while doing the configuration in FileZilla V3 since I
don't pass their wizard configuration test to this particular server.

Thanks again.
