Big Text

Hello,

I created a simple design design page which displays a big text left
aligned and centered in page:

http://www.27lamps.com/public/BigText.htm

The font-size is defined in 'em' as usual and the width is 80% of text
size.

I would like this text to fill 80% width and 80% height. The bigger
the screen the bigger the font to fill this space.

Is this possible?

If it is not possible to define the height what should be a reasonable
text size to fill 2/3 of the screen height so the user don't need to
scroll down but at the same time filling a good part of the page?

Thanks,
Miguel

I doubt it. So what is left to do or say. Perhaps I could stir the pot
with:

Close enough *might* be something like:

<http://dorayme.890m.com/alt/bigType.html>

which, as usual, looks terrific on my Safari, FF, Opera... and shithouse
on my Mac IE5 and presumably as shithouse on Windows anything (judging
by past experience).

Yes, you are right. That was what I thought ... but somehow I get nice
suggestions here so I just gave a try.

Thank You,

Along those same lines is something like:

<http://www.duckwizard.com/ciwas/bigText.html>

which will certainly fail miserably in any version of IE, and is also
certainly not worth the effort. Sure looks nice in FF/Safari/Opera, though.

mmm... that looks clever...

It does not go bigger han "normal text" or centre on my Mac Safari 2 or
iCab 4, but ok on FF, Opera.

However, I guess I do not understand this business of svg + xml (my God
that sounds good, I will see if I can get a number plate with this on),
it is not affected by the zoom feature in Opera and does not vary in
size on text size command in FF (unlike normal images that are carefully
specified for dimensions)

Wow, didn't know about this!
And is still visible to search engines?

This could be an option to create nicer looking text in menus, or not?
And as far as I could find it is under W3C wing ...

However, in the case which made me post this problem I am not sure if
I can use this ...
Basically, I want to have this centered big text but with links (a
tags) to other pages.

Google SVG. It is not text, it is a vector graphic, not more visible
than a raster graphics. It is just a picture. The advantage of vector
over raster is scalability as was demonstrated. The image is plotted
instead of defined with a grid.

You didn't look hard enough

AFAIK only if you wish to leave out IE users.

Google SVG. It is not text, it is a vector graphic, not more visible
than a raster graphics. It is just a picture.
In this case it is not just a picture as alternate text content is
provided in the body of the <objectelement which is perfectly
visible to search engines.

And lets IE users see something...
