How to get a outlined border for a table

hi every one,
Actually i am going through the designing of a table
for which i want to add a border only to the outline
i mean to say the table should contain outlined border only
the data in the table should not contain the border
can any one please guide me towards the solution

heres the solution in short....

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. <table style="border:1px solid #ff0000">
  2. <tr>
  3. <td>column 1</td>
  4. <td>column 2</td>
  5. </tr>
  6. <tr>
  7. <td>column 1</td>
  8. <td>column 2</td>
  9. </tr>
