onclick function does not work in <a> tag

17
Hi,All.
I want to click a string, then pass the string to asp file, where I use function to get a remote xml file, and then use brower to parse this xml file. But it doe not work. Is the code right?

<a href="rssxml1.asp?ITEM=1" onclick="loadnews()">stringA </a>
<a href="rssxml1.asp?ITEM=2" onclick="loadnews()">stringB </a>

Is that right? The problem is that I can get remote xml file in browser but loadnews() function does not execute, though this function works separately. I donot know how to combine that href with onclick event. Because I want to do two things when clicking a string:
1 pass a value to asp file
2 that asp file receives that value and execute retrieval of remote file

then brower parse the retrieved file to display sth.

Thank you very much in advance.

There is no 'onclick' attribute for the <a> element. That is why the function is never being called.
