Float left and subsequent clear problems in IE...

The following page illustrates my problem:
http://webserver/TestSite/Float.html

(CSS is here: http://webserver/TestSite/styles/Float.css )

Two columns (works OK), but the first element
in column 2 is a little bit lower that the others

What I want is that each element in col. 2 shall
top-align with the corresponding element in col. 1.

I get the effect I want in FF, but in IE all elements
in col. 2 flows upward.

Is there a way to fix this so that IE behaves like FF,
without changing the
<div class="clear floatleft"and <div class="floatleft">
in the HTML?

(They are externally machine generated)

TIA...
