standardized navbar

at my company i was asked to create a standardized navbar, something that can be implemented across all of our pages. something that,if we need to add or remove links from the navbar, could be done by editing one page and not everything on our server.

in a similar forum, someone mentioned ssi (server side includes), but when i did some research i found that people refer to it as "old technology"

i'm curious what larger websites with thousands of pages do to standardize their navbars. we're not using php or anything, so i wanted to see what options are out there.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you're not using a server-side scripting language such as PHP or Coldfusion it might be an idea to start. Dreamweaver does have a library facility where you can create a nav bar once and then include it in all the different pages. Dreamweaver recognises when you have edited it, then copies the changes to every page where it is "included". It's a bit of a clunky solution.

For ease of use Coldfusion would do the job (and many more besides) easily and is a piece of cake to learn. For value for money, PHP can't be beaten (free) although there is a steeper learning curve.
