Excel-style Persistent Column(s)

I'm trying to find out if it's possible to create persistent columns
similar to what is available in Excel. Basically, I've got a table
that is wider than the screen, and when the user scrolls left to right
I want two or three columns to stay visible with the rest of the
columns sliding behind them. Can this be done somewhat easily?
Thanks in advance for any help.
