automated webcomic next/back links

Hi, I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction- I don't even know what keywords to search under for this one. I'm hoping it can be done with HTML as well, since that's all I've learned so far.

Basically I'm creating a series of public webcomic templates and I want to know if there's a way to set up the navigation buttons for the comics inside a single frame (at the bottom of each page), so they link to the next/last page in succession WITHOUT having to update these each time a new comic is added.

ie: can a link be programmed to "know" that it's on comic004.html at the moment and make the 'next' button go forward one page to comic005.html and the 'back' button go to comic003.html without having to change any code? And if so, can this be done if the page displaying the comic is situated in another frame?

In addition, is there a way to have just the comic image open in the central frame AND have it centered inside the frame?

I'll really appreciate it if someone could explain how any of this can be done, let me know it can't be done (or will require a mastery of php, java, etc...), direct me to a tutorial where I can teach myself how to do it, or even tell me what I should be searching under...

What you require needs a programming language and can't be done using html or css.

You may try some Javascript with a Frameset...

If you create a frameset and set the buttons into the second frame, it may be possible to use some JavaScript to scroll through a list of HTML pages....

But it's probl'y easier just to make EACH page have an individual set of links, that wouldn't be too hard unless you already have a whole bunch and have to edit each page....
