advice on conversion from tables to css

Hello. I broke myself of the habit of using tables for layout some years
ago, but still have some pages on my web site that were designed that way.

Just today I tried converting one such relic to css. I'd appreciate anyone
looking at and commenting on my conversion, hopefully offering suggestions
for improvement.

The original page is at www.TheBicyclingGuitarist.net/pandora/pandy1.htm
The new version is at http://www.TheBicyclingGuitarist.net.../csspandy1.htm

I know it's a hack job. If any of you who know better than me can tell me
how to improve it, I'll be grateful.

If the feedback indicates the new css version is an improvement over the old
table layout version, I will definitely replace the old one. One problem I
notice is the caption to the right of the second photograph ("chase the
photographer" ) doesn't work well when the window is shrunk below a certain
point.

You could improve it by letting pussy keep sleeping and setting
the gif to not loop at all.

Your page isn't rendering properly in Opera 9.2 or Firefox 2.5. Both are the
same (flawed), but completely different than in IE6, which looks to be what
you intend the page to look like.

Thank you, Ed. I guess I'll redesign the layout completely instead of trying
to duplicate the old layout that used tables. If I knew what I was doing, .I
*might* be able to recreate the layout in such a way that it renders in a
similar manner in all browsers.
