i had a comment at the top of my html file like this:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers

  3. <html xmlns="">
  4. <head>
  5. <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" />
  6. <link href="style/sgstyle.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen" />
  7. <title>Webpage...</title>
  8. </head>
  10. <body>
  12. <div id="container">
  13. <div id="header">
and it totally screwed my page. can anyone tell me this is?

take the comment out or move it. Obviously it can't go there.

I assume this is in IE? If you put anything before the doctype in IE, it will go into quirks mode. As stated, just remove that line.

i guess i thought a comment could go anywhere...
and yes it was IE - firefox wouldnt mess up like that...
