I need to capture what a user selects in the drop-down list. How do i do that? I need to perform different functions depending on what he selects.

you need to use a server side script like PHP or ASP or perl or any other server side script. First thing to decide is what server side scripting language you will use and then proceed from there.

can i use client-side javascript?how can i capture the value using this?
I used selectedIndex but am unable to capture.

I believe you can, ask in the javascripting forum. Not that you can do anything server side with the form data that way but maybe you don't need to.

I'm not 100% sure we answered the question correctly. If you want the selection to be sent to the server for processing, you can do that with forms, though javascript can do that, too.

If you want the page to change based on the selection but without sending that selection to the server, then you need javascript.
