putting navigation menu on a image

hi i want to be able to put my menu on a image but the words still have to be there.
for my assignment i'm only allowed to use html and css. is it possible to do this?

So you want to have an image as a background to a menu yes this can be done. As you're saying assignment I would like to see what code you have first.

You want to look at the css for "background-image". Much of your code, btw, is not valid xhtml.

I would be shocked if not, I see you have a style sheet linked why aren't you using CSS across the board?

Not sure you can use xhtml but you declare it at the head of your page?

i found out i do but now i have new problem lol using css , i cant put text under my images
