Hello,

I want need to do the following:

div_01

div_05

Do I need to place div_02, div_03 and div_04 inside a div container?

Thanks,

No. Just:

#div_02 { float:left;}
#div_03 { float:left;}
#div_04 { float:left;}

No. Just:

#div_02 { float:left;}
#div_03 { float:left;}
#div_04 { float:left;}
Basically yes! But I doubt OP would be happy with result under
different popular browsers and screen conditions. He wants a
header and a footer and no messing about with the 3 cols, no
float drops. At a guess. So container, yes, it can help in this
and dim all the inner divs to for sure fit inside
or

#div_02 { float:left; ...}
#div_03
#div_04 { float:right; ...}

with suitable margins for the central (perhaps content) col and
widths for the left and right. Here a container might be
redundant.
