problem with viewing .txt files in browser

xah
In the latest version of Firefox and Opera, there's this problem:

if a link points to a .txt file, the text file will open in browser
with lines running off the window.

Safari don't have this problem.

Example:
http://xahlee.org/UnixResource_dir/w...hatredfaq.html
the local links text near the bottom.

If I downloard the .txt file (SeaMonkey, right-click on link, Save Link
Target As ...), I get the same problem in Notepad (the default .txt file
viewer in Windows). To view with wrapping, I have to specify [Format >
Word Wrap] on the Notepad menu bar.

I'll look at this further. Perhaps I'll submit a Mozilla bug report.

I use SeaMonkey as my Web browser because I want
a browser that complies with Web standards. See
<http://www.mozilla.org/projects/seamonkey/>.

Wouldn't this be a Feature Request, rather than a bug? :-)
Something similar to Opera's "Fit to width" button...

Not showing line breaks where no line breaks exist isn't a bug. Allowing
wrapping for those cases where the plain text file actually contains
paragraph text is a useful feature, but it isn't always called for.

This is a 7-year-old bug, #16909. See
