Float and the IE shimmy...

I have a dynamic page that populates information inbetween a few tags.

Here is the issue, in firefox, the css works beautifully.

In IE for some reason when the small icon is put inbetween the span class of check it starts migrating it's way over to the right with each successive instance. It starts like a stairway effect.

In Firefox it doesn't do that though. When I remove the float attribute from the check class IE stops compounding the distance.

Any clue how to get IE to stop this?

In the end it should look like this:

Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. Title
  2.    check   item title
  3.    check   item title
  4.            item title
  5.    check   item title
  6.
instead of:
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
  1. Title
  2.    check   item title
  3.       check   item title
  4.                       item title
  5.                  check   item title
  6.

css
