Need help with positioning differences in Firefox vs. IE

Hello -

The following code displays a GIF image in Mozilla 1.5 in the correct
place (in relation to the rest of the content on the page), but it's
shifted up and to the left in relation to the rest of the page in IE 6.
Can anyone tell me why?

<MAP NAME="linksslice_Map">
<AREA SHAPE="rect" ALT="" COORDS="8,7,53,25" HREF="links.htm">
</MAP>

<div style="position: absolute; top:8px; left:600px; z-index:6">
<IMG SRC="images/linksslice.gif" WIDTH=56 HEIGHT=107 BORDER=0
USEMAP="#linksslice_Map">
Thanks,

RB
