CSS Problem

Hello all.

I was hoping you would be able to help me with an issue I seem to be having. I have a css/html webpage. There are several items on the page (menu headings, text boxes, text etc) that are all placed with css. They look fine currently and do not "move" when I view it at different resolutions.
example.....

#menu1{
position: absolute;
top: 240px;
left: 240px;
}
I also have a background image which is coded as...

body
{
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
width: auto;
min-width: 954px;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
}
</style>
</head>
<body background="background2.jpg">
</body>

The problem is this. I need to have the background centered in the middle of the page (left/right only not top/bottom). No matter what I use the items I have absolutely positioned move when I view it at different resolutions.

Any idea what I could do to fix this? it really does need to be centered but after 2 hours looking at various ways I have yet to find one that works.

Any help would be great!

Have you tried to remove the background image from the HTML <body> tag and put it in the body's CSS tag, as:
background: url(../images/myimage.gif) no-repeat #ECFFE8 center;
I tried something similiar to that earlier--it centers the stuff but in 1280x1024 the text and boxes are horribly messed up. it looks "almost" ok in 1024x768 but i was really hoping to have it look the same no matter what.

Is that even possible?

Hi,

You can do it by this way,

CSS code

body {backgorund: url(../images/bkg.gif) no-repeat center top}

#container {width:80%}

Now create one more DIV for menu list.

#menu {position:relative; left:150px; top:40px}

Html Code

<div id="container">
<div id="menu">
<ul>
<li>Menu 01</li>
<li>Menu 02</li>
<li>Menu 03</li>
</ul>
</div>
</div>

try not to use absolute positioning, because it vaires with each screen, what is centered in a 800x600 screen, will be to the left in a 1200x800 screen

you know what i mean?
try using
Expand|Select|Wrap|Line Numbers
 1. <style type="text/css">
 2. p
 3. text-align: center
 4. </style>
 5. <p>Test Center</p>
