CSS Layout Multiple Images

Hi, I am a newbie to CSS. My problem at this point has to do with
layout.

I've inherited a website that uses nested tables for the layout of the
page (www.gccnh.com), which I would like to slowly change to use CSS.
My biggest problem at this point is figuring out how to deal with the
multiple images that were used for the background. Most of the table
structure uses something like the following although this is a bit
simplified, and Right Image_top is actually a little larger:

_________________Table______________________
Left Image_top | Middle Image_top | Right Image_top
----------------------------------------------------_______________
Left Image_mid | Middle Image_mid | Right Image_mid
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The table(s) are centered on the page, which I was able to duplicate
with a container div, but now am not sure how to get the placement of
the images.

I tried setting each image in its own div with the image as the
background and with the float
setting. This worked good for line one, but line 2 disappeared, so I
am getting frustrated. A push in the right direction would be very
much appreciated.

My thanks!
