Is there a better way to achieve this ?

Couple of questions

1) I have been redesigning a website with css and I am creating a
layout for a portfolio with using css.

It is not incomplete with place holder images but can give an idea
www.i-catching.co.uk I am avoiding using the tables but I am not sure
whether there is a better approach to achieve this layout by using
css.

I have also noticed that it displays without problems in Safari but not
in IE 6 Win XP Style MAster does not indicate there will be any
problems.
Thanks

So incomplete it's hard to tell just what you want it to look like.

- The coding is sloppy, which wants fixing before you worry about
exact layout.

- You're using XHTML, which I doubt is of any advantage to you at all.
Use HTML 4.01 Strict unless you have a very good reason not to.

- Using absolute position in CSS is almost always a bad idea, leading
to rigid sites that don't adapt well to varying window sizes.
