div sizing or resizing

The link below is the beginning of my home page recreated using css. It
is pretty much one main div with a border (the green border) that
contains three columns that float left. How do I make the div with the
green border resize according to its contents (the three floating
columns it contains). Right now it's a fixed width and height.

I'm just beginning to learn this css stuff so you just might see 1 or
more bonehead mistakes. I'll get better as I work with it more.
