Styling a <select> tag

I tried putting a title="description" tag in an <option> tag, but when
I hover the mouse over the option of the <select> tag in my browsers,
no description shows up. How can I do it?

Also, my <select> tag shows several entries at the same time, and what
I'd like to do is to show as many entries as possible, according to the
height of its container, which has a variable height. Is it possible? I
currently use size="5" for instance to show 5 entries, but I'd like it
to change dynamically according to the space available.

That's not a CSS question, is it? Try c.i.w.a.html. (You'll hopefully learn
the principle "never trust a smiling cat, or a title attribute".)

You could try playing with the height property for a <select> element. What
else _could_ it be? Usual CSS caveats apply - unusually strongly, since
<select> element rendering is often under the control of routines that are
more or less immune to CSS.
