Need help using faux columns technique

Hi

I am currently learning the faux columns technique from various
tutorials but none of them tells me how to create a 774 px band in 3
colors in photoshop.
I understand I can create 3 individual GIF's for each column but the
tutorial I am really focusing on does one band only with the 3 colors.
I understand the technique but don't know how to create let's say a
774px wide band with Blue (200px) White(374px) and Red(200px).
This might belong in a Photoshop forum but I was afraid they would not
understand what faux columns is, so I chose to try here first.

Thanks a lot

Patrick

If you want _one_ image for _three_ columns, I can only assume it is for
the background. If it is for the background, why not just set the
background color in css?

Thanks but it doesn't work. Columns go only as far down as there is
content to fill them in. I want 3 different colors.

Thanks anyway

True, but so does a background image.

However, let's get back to your original query:
I understand the technique but don't know how to create let's say a
774px wide band with Blue (200px) White(374px) and Red(200px). ((...in
Photoshop))

Setting your desired height, create a New Image of width 200px and check
the option to use background color (which you have previously set to blue.)
Now set the background color to white and use Canvas Size to expand the
image to 574px, appending on the right. Now set background color to red
and repeat the Canvas Size procedure to make the final image 774px wide.
Save and have a snack.

Search Google for "css faux columns" and read how the technique works.
It's very effective.
However, let's get back to your original query:
I understand the technique but don't know how to create let's say a
774px wide band with Blue (200px) White(374px) and Red(200px). ((...in

<snip>

Another way to do this is to create an image 774px wide in the first
place and just draw rectangles of the required colours. I don't use
Photoshop, so I don't know how easy it is to size the rectangles, but I
can't believe it's hard.

Not saying there was anything wrong with the way Neredbojias suggested,
but it's often useful to see more than one way to do something.

HTH
