Firefox does not recognize background image

Firefox does not recognize background image referred to on styles.css
IE sees it with no problem.

What is the problem?

Just going to say. The CSS is correct. You just might want to use a
source image that's on the network.

And ya'know, that's a funny thing. It seems the 1and1 server will
constantly leave that part in, even though I have changed the HTML to
"images/backgrnd.jpg" before the upload. But, my friend, you still
haven't answered the question: Why does IE see it and Firefox not?

That sounds very "funny" indeed, since it implies that your server knows
about the arrangement of your local hard disks. Perhaps there is a more
natural explanation?
But, my friend, you still haven't answered the question: Why does IE
see it and Firefox not?

IE and FF both render your image at the bottom-right. Instead of talking
about browsers that can "see", can you say what you mean in more
concrete terms?

Perhaps because Firefox's security blocks access to your hard drive by a
page served by a web server. I have a page of links I use for quick
access, set as the default page on my local web server. Several of the
links were local references to documents on my hard drive, and they used
to work in IE but they stopped functioning when I switched to Firefox.
If I take those same local URLs and paste them into Firefox's address
field, it opens them without difficulty--in other words, it blocks
access only when there's a chance that I don't know that a local
resource is being referenced.

When IE receives the page from the server and sees the local path, it
ignores the DocumentRoot and loads the image from the local store.
Firefox does not do such a silly, unsecure thing, recognizing that
"e:/..." is an invalid URL.
