Does w3's example of vertical centering work?

When I view this page in IE6 (with all current updates on Windows XP), it is
not vertically centered as the page itself claims and as is claimed on
http://www.w3.org/Style/Examples/007/center.html

Any ideas what's wrong?

IE6 doesn't handle "position:fixed" correctly. Also, the methods used to
accomplish the centering in other browsers are dubious.
