Where can I download SP from?

Hello,

Years ago, I downloaded SP from the W3C web site, and set it up so that
I could validate pages on my local development server. As most of my
sites are dynamically generated (ASP/ASP.NET), and my web server is not
visible from the Internet, this saved me from having to load a page,
view source and copy it into the on-line validator.

I've recently been trying to upgrade some old sites from HTML 4
Transitional to either HTML 4 Strict, or to XHTML 1.0 Strict (which is
what ASP.NET 2.0 generates), and would like to upgrade SP to be able to
valid these pages. Trouble is, I can't find it now!!

Anyone know where I can get it? Alternately, are there any other tools I
can use for validating pages directly from my local sever? TIA

Thanks. Any idea which of those pubtext files I use for XHTML 1.0
Strict? I can't see one that looks right.

Thanks again

The SP distribution doesn't include the files needed for XHTML support,
you have to add these manually.

The various files I use with ARV may help:

I'd start by simply copying all those files into SP's \pubtext\ folder,
then see if it works. I gave up on trying to get SP going myself, so if
that doesn't do it you may have to ask someone like Nick Kew for
assistance (amongst other things he's a validator specialist).

Thanks for the reply.

In case it helps anyone, I discovered that the excellent Internet
Explorer Development Toolbar (free download from MS) includes a feature
that will send the HTML or CSS of the current page to the validator for
checking. This means I don't need to run a local validator, I can use my
development server, load up the pages, then click the button to check
them.

I can't do a whole site in one go like you can if you have it locally,
but it's a small price to pay, and the toolbar has plenty other great
features to make up for it.

You can get it from...
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

Thanks for the reply. I'll stick to this method for the moment though.

Wow! Like Opera 5+ does?! I wonder if MS will be catching up with Opera
5's other features soon?

How ironic that ASP.NET generates XHTML, when IE doesn't even support
it. :-P

Don't ask me, I'm using the framework, not designing it!!

Anyway, I thought IE6 supported it, no? I mean, as much as IE supports
anything!!

Did I say it didn't? Firefox also has these features, what's your point?
Are you suggesting that just because Opera supports something, IE
shouldn't?
I wonder if MS will be catching up with Opera

Maybe, but don't hold your breath ;-)

To clarify, I wasn't going "Whoopee, IE is the best browser on the
planet because it allows you to validate the HTML of the current page",
I was merely pointing out that this toolbar includes this feature
(amongst many others). Some people may find this useful. You may not,
that's your opinion.

My personal feeling is that any browser that includes these sorts of
features as standard is not designed for normal people. How many
ordinary users care about valid HTML? Why bother blocking up a browser
with features that are totally useless to the vast majority of users? MS
offered this as a free add-on to developers. I see that as a positive
sign that they are cleaning up their act. Maybe you just don't want to
hear anything good about MS, but given their strong position in the
browser market, I think any step they take towards compliance and
validity has to be welcomed.

In the "HTML-compatable and thus pointless" sense, and also in the
"Served as generic XML with some XSLT", but not as real XHTML.
