core" styles from w3 hang page when w3 site is slow...

I use "core" styles from w3. But at the time of this email time W3 is down
ie. i cannot connect via browser to w3.org and any web page the uses the
core styles will freeze/hang.

Is there a way when w3 is site's slow or down to stop trying to connect and
just show the page? Or use an alternate css? This has never happened before
but when it did as now it freezes everything.

leegold,

You could try this:

1. Download and install Opera.
2. Tools
Preferences...
Content
Style options...
Under 'User mode' uncheck "Page style sheet"
In the pulldown box, select "User mode"
OK
OK

[No guarantees; I have used Opera for about 24 hours.]

As a matter of curiosity, why do you link to a style sheet on someone
else's site?

leegold,

Ah, I see now. Easy, yes, but at least two downsides:

1. Not much room for creativity.
2. Dependency on someone else's server (as you learned).

Thanks for the answer. I wasn't aware of this effort.

Download the style sheet file and put it on your Web server with the
HTML pages.
