Ajax Book

I am looking to buy one of the books putting Ajax together. I have
various technical books on the component technology, but a coherent
overview would be nice. _Ajax in Action_ seems reasonable from the 15
second glance. Has anyone read any of these and have some
recommendations/warnings?

TIA.

It's the best I've seen, particularly as a first overview.

Well, I've got a pretty good 15 second glance. It is the 30 second
deep reads that fail me. ;-)

Thanks, I may pick it up soon if I don't get another recommendation.

This covers everything I needed to know about Ajax in order to fully
implement it in a rather large web-based application. It's a lot
simpler than people make it out to be.

It is nice, but I find that it is nice to have something discussing
what to do, not just the technical hows. I have plenty of technical
"hows" on the underlying technology, but a broader view would be good
as well.

I think a lot of that is really up to the imagination.

How much searching have you done? A good start is the Adaptive Path article,
and the Wikipedia article. I also found a site that specifically watches and
reports on good use of Ajax technology - but I can't recall the URL - I'll
post it when I find it again.

I understand Google maps uses it, and you might want to check out
sigalert.com, too, for some ideas.

If you find that site let me know. I have done a reasonable amount of
searching on-line and I am reasonably good at it. But sometimes it is
also nice to have a book length presentation of a topic. I think that
the conceptual sum that is Ajax looks very promising. Someone who has
done a good job at sitting down and thinking though the coherence would
be helpful. Or not if it has not been done. Thanks tough for your help
and let me know that site. And I will let you know if I find it.

I'll try to remember to check my browser history at work - I ran across the
site there, where I am handling the Ajax implementation for our site. It
came up while I was researching something particular, but I can't remember
what. But it was last week that i found it, so hopefully, I'll be able to
find it again.

As for Ajax and its uses, I think we're putting it to very good use in a
variety of ways. Unfortunately, we don't go Beta until January, so I can't
share any of what we're doing just yet... :(

Finally tracked it down - it wasn't in my browser history, but I did
find it mentioned in an old email:
http://www.aventureforth.com/2005/09...-applications/

As for a book, have you seen "Ajax in Action", published by Manning?
