Articles on Splash covers?

I'm designing a site the typical dilemma of a customer who feels a Splash
cover is a necesserary solution to "improve" their site, and so I'm looking
for some independent reference material to educate my customer with.
Does anyone happen to know the location of some especially good articles on
the pitfalls of Splash covers? I've come up with a few including
http://www.websiteoptimization.com/speed/tweak/splash/
I'd like to add more to the collection as its likely not the first and last
time I expect to encounter this annoying issue in dealing with clients....

"Splash" pages were popular once - for about a week I think.

Using them is kinda like stopping everyone who wants to enter your
store, make them wait up to a minute or so, then force them to watch
some inane video presentation that likely as not runs very jerkily and
with rotten sound.

And only then allow them to enter the store.

Hope that helps :-)

Don't forget: It makes some wait even longer than that because they've
had to install a plug-in, before they find they're waiting to see a splash
screen which was completely superfluous.

Some idiot webmasters think they're being nice by putting a "skip intro"
link into the Flash animation, so you don't have to watch the whole thing.
But they don't have the brains to put it into the HTML so you can get past
the entry page without the Flash plug in.
