Box Model in Internet Explorer 7.0

Is there any clear indication yet of whether Microsoft are intending to
fix their box model in the latest release of Internet Explorer, version
7.0?

(For an explanation of what this is, see here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interne..._box_model_bug )

It is already fixed in IE 6 when in strict (standards compliant) mode so
what else do you want them to fix?

And note that MS has said that there will be no CSS fixes in IE7 quirks
mode that would break legacy sites.

How about HTML 4.01 Transitional, for which there is a formal DTD?

I use Mozilla as my Web browser because I want a browser that
complies with Web standards. See <URL:http://www.mozilla.org/>.

Use the Doctype with the URI rather then depending in the public identifier.

.... or don't use Transitional, it is 2005, we should have finished the
transition by now.

Actually, the MS quote refers to strict mode only. Perhaps transitional
will support fewer standards than strict?

What quote? The referenced page refers to Standards mode and Quirks mode.
Which one is used depends on Internet Explorer looking at the Doctype and
juging the author's ability based on their choice of Doctype - and it isn't
so simple as Strict or Transitional.

That makes little sense.

The quote is from here, about IE7:

http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2005/3/9.aspx

The quote is "We will continue to improve our compliance under strict
mode even when it breaks compatibility, and under quirks mode when it’s
not damaging to our backwards compatibility."

Note that transitional is not mentioned.

Hey, we're talking about Microsoft here. Does it have to make sense?

*headdesk* *headdesk* Microsoft not knowing what triggers their own products
modes. Argh.
