I've been seeing pages that are in a column on
the left, not centered. The column width is
good for reading but it looks odd stacked
left -- at least on my 1024 screen.
Is there a good reason for this format?
A lot of people still use 800 X 600 resolution. Pages that look like that in
1024 X 768 were probably designed for the 800 X 600 so those people don't
have to scroll.
And because the designers didn't understand the concept of percents or for
some reason (often graphics or b/c they used a generator tool) didn't want to
use them.
When I use Photoshop or PhotoImpact to make pages, it does this sort of
design by default. I have to muck with the results to make it centered nice
or such. One of the reasons I don't like using graphics programs for page
generation, personally. But sometimes you need to make sliced graphics, and
the html for those can be a PITA, so...
