TABLE, cell width.. help

Hi..

I have this code in my page

<table width="100%" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0">
<tr><td width="9"><img src="topLeft.gif"></td>
<td>text goes here</td>
<td width="9"><img src="topRight.gif"></td>
</tr>
</table>

The table is stretching and making the left and right columns wider
than 9 pixels wide. Why? This is very frustrating..
Am I missing something?

It may depend on the actual images, and on the browser you are using,
and on other ingredients of the page.

And it's probably frustrating to try to use HTML for pixel-exact
layout in a tricky manner. Are you sure you don't just want some
borders for a block?
