Site Migration

Hi,

i'm not quite sure if this is the right group, so please notify me if
i'm OT...

I have the following problem:
I need to migrate a large site (~10.000 HTML pages) to a new server.
Since the target Server and new applications for this site will use
ColdFusion, this server is not capable of executing the SSI Statements
used in all of the pages. Mainly only the SSI "include virtual"
statement is used which could be easily replaced by the CFM
"cfinclude" tag. Problem is, that all the .htm and .html files will
need to be renamed to .cfm in order to be parsed for these statements.
Also all the internal links of the pages need to be modified in order
to reflect the name changes. A second problem is that all files from
one specific Folder (.pdf files ~35GB) will not be moved due to size.
Links pointing to files in this directory need to be modified to
absolute links.

Does anyone know any tool / script to accomplish those tasks? I have
tried "HTML Rename!" (Expandable Language). It works quite well, but
i'm not sure if it doesn't do too much ;)

Thanks in Advance for any comments,

[Coldfusion]

A group within the macromedia.coldfusion hierarchy seems more
appropriate for your query.

Renaming file extensions causing link rot is pretty drastic, inquire
first if there are alternatives.

Someone else has suggested this is Off-Topic, but I disagree. It's a
classic "content-management" problem. I hope that this migration can
run in parallel for the moment, otherwise, you're in deep do-do. Some
PHB ("pointy haired boss"
http://www.dilbert.com/comics/dilber...ers/index.html) may
have in their mind that this can "just happen" when in fact based on
your description, you'll need to go through several things on _each_
page to ensure it converts correctly.

Sounds like a job for a text and file manipulation tool. There are many
such things around--perl comes to mind. It's what I would use to do
this job. Find a perl contractor to write a conversion tool for you or
get your webmaster to do it. Web designers may not have the skills
since they focus on what a site's appearance.
