What good is margin-bottom in IE?

I have this DIV at the very bottom of a html.

<head>
<style type="css/text" media="all">
<!--
#oFoot { position: relative;
left: 0px;
width: 100%;
height: 50px;
filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.Gradient(startCo lorStr='#FF0000', endColorStr='#FCCCCF', gradientType='0');
text-align: center; }
-->
</style>
</head>
<!-- -->
<div id="oFoot">
<!-- a table -->
</div>
</body>
</html>

My trouble is this <div> is not flush with the bottom of the document. There is a gap of about 50px. Any ideas how to fix this? If not it seems that bottom-margin in IE is superfalous.

An URL would be a lot more useful.
Your stylesheet does not use margin-bottom. There is nothing in your
example (which, BTW, is invalid html) that would push the div to the bottom.

You can't just *think* about margin-bottom to make it work. You actually
have to have it in your page.

(Sorry for the top-posting, but for some reason your message isn't getting
prefixed by ">" in my response.)

Hi. Could you explain what is invalid about it? Of course I didn't give you the entire code. I don't think that was necessary. In any case you were right. I just added:

<style type="text/css">
<!--
/* stuff */
body { margin-bottom: 0px; }
-->
</style>

That did what I wanted. The <DIV is now flush with the bottom of the page. In IE anyway. Thanks.

Yes I didn't realize there was a default to margin-bottom. I thought if margin-bottom wasn't set then it was 0. But live and learn. No it's around 50px.

The sample code is missing the <body> tag. It is because of these sorts
of errors that we insist on an URL.
