Email address found in an IMG SRC tag.

I'm looking at some spam that has HTML source like the following:

<IMG SRC="cid:part1.03010001.09040904@ad***********@yah oo.com"
border="0" ALT="">

I've never seen an email address tied to an IMG SRC tag. What does
this type of code do?

Maybe the message is some multipart message which contains the HTML
document as one part and the image data inline as another part where cid
I think means content identifier and references the image part by some
id value the authoring tool generates:

The "cid:" tells you that this simply refers to another MIME part of the
message, not an email address.

Had it been an "http:" URL, the image might have been used to track
which email addresses are read, at least by HTML-rendering mail readers
that show images by default.

If this is true, then shouldn't there be another location in the
source of the email that has the number part1.00090607? The message
source of the email doesn't have this identifier in it. Also, why is
this CID pointing to @yahoo.com?
