Aside from the missing (but required) alt attribute, there is nothing
obviously wrong with this. Try providing a URI so that people can see the
code in context.

I set up some test examples

It looks like the issue is with the Cold Fusion. It probably depends on a
form variable called "login" to decide if the user is trying to login or
not.

As far as HTML is concerned, both examples work. If the application is
broken, that's probably a programming issue.

That would be my guess too. An image submit button causes different data
to be sent; see a description at
http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/forms...on.html#submit

Then one could include
<input type="hidden" value="GO" name="login">
into the form.

But if you ask me, I'd suggest using a normal submit button instead of
creating problems and then finding fixes for them. A submit button could
be styled if desired, but it is more user-friendly to let browsers
display submit buttons in their own style, which the user is familiar
with.

It can't be a programming issue as the back end is the same. The only
difference between the two files is the <input type>. EVERYTHING else
is the same.

input type="image" sends x/y variables but I don't see how that
affects anything.

thx everyone

Thanks for the link. I've found that to. It works in Mozilla but not in IE 6.

I'll have to keep looking for a work-around.

thx
