Forcing long container div to load as content loads

Hi there,

I have recently created a new stylesheet for my site, but I'm having a
problem with the way it renders.

I have a container div with a background image, which is only being
rendered once all of the contained content has fully loaded. On this
page, that behaviour is obvious and looks awful:

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might get around this
problem?

Thanks in advance for your help
