Help with css visibility hidden

Hello,
I am having a small problem with one of my css is over riding a css from
another program.
I have read about the visibility hidden css but I don't understand how it
works. I would appreciate it if someone can explain to me how the css
visibility hidden works with a short example.
Thank you

<p>This is visible<span style="visibility:hidden">, this isn't, but it
still occupies the space it would have taken had it been visible</span>,
this is also visible.</p>

I suspect that this doesn't solve your problem, so I suggest that you
now do what you should have done in the first instance: tell us what you
are trying to do.
