About Netscape Navigator 4.51

For a curiousity, I installed Netscape Navigator 4.51 on my computer and
started browsing common web sites.
It's amazing how ugly and sometimes totally unusable 90% of web sites are
with this notorious browser.
CSS layouts are a real mess (ie: www.bp.com). Only messy code web sites
such as Yahoo (<FONT FACE=ARIAL>) display kind of ok.
Give it a try, it's interesting.

FYI, 4.08 and 4.79 seem to be more commonly used than 4.51. Not that's
there's been much difference in page rendering since 4.05.

Yep, that's why responsible authors hide CSS from NN4.

Either that or charge an arm and a leg to go through CSS files and
hide or tweak individual rules to make it work. Good money to be made
if the client insists on it, but still a right pain in the arse.

BTW, and I have to be careful what I say here, but www.bp.com is not a
good example of a CSS layout. The deeper you look into the code the
more you realise just how strange a lot of it is.

For the most part NN4 can handle font styling via CSS okay. It's
floats and margins/paddings and positioning that it tends to screw up
big time. Oh and background images. Etc., etc.
Give it a try, it's interesting.

.... in a masochistic kind of way.

There's a german saying, I try to translate it:
You can drill a hole in your knee, fill it with milk and wait for it to
get sour. That's also painful.
