It was a time of great turmoil. The strong preyed on the weak, dogs
and cats lived together. One voice cried out in the wilderness:

Look at the logo and start scrolling down the page:

It reminds me of the Complex Spiral Demo:

pity the newbie:

I read the stylesheet but did not see how they held the logo static.

Have a look at the background images used on the whole page and the
header:
http://www.westciv.com/images/page_bg.gif
http://www.westciv.com/images/banner.gif

Then read the CSS spec on fixed backgrounds:
http://www.w3.org/TR/CSS2/colors.htm...und-attachment
and note that fixed backgrounds are always fixed with respect to the
viewport not to their element.

Then think about it for a bit.

Thank you very much.
It was not clear in the documentation, but I presume that when a div
containing a fixed background-attachment scrolls such that the
background attachment is no longer "inside" the div it is progressively
trimmed ?

The background is to that element & it's elsewhere clear in the spec
what region this covers, so in that section it is implicit that the user
agent is responsible for any clipping necessary, aiui.

IOW Yes :)
