stretch fonts vertically?

hello,

i am rendering some text using a barcode font. however it is coming
out quite short... i would like to increase it's vertical w/o
necessarily changing the horizontal.

anyone know of a way to do this? oddly, CSS only supports horizontal
stretching via the "font-stretch" property (wouldnt ya think theyd
implement both axis?!?).
thanks for any suggestions.

Use a very large font size, *then* compress it horizontally?

an idea.. one of our guys said it didnt work well, but i havent
confirmed.

what i did is place two tags, one directly above the other w/ no
vertical spacing between the two: taller barcode. works..

That can be done on usenet too...

"Look Maa, one tag directly above another";

<uppertag>
<lowertag>
